Sometimes in life we face unexpected situations. We plan our lives away never thinking that anything could go wrong. Until one day you wake up in excruciating pain you have never felt before. Scared to death you end up going to the Emergency room and nothing is really happening according the doctors. The pain continues day after day, night after night year after year that’s where my nightmare began.

After countless of doctors, procedures, labs and tests I got diagnosed with Vulvodynia, Interstitial Cystitis and Fibromyalgia. These are all nerve related chronic pain conditions that cause stabbing, penetrating, dull, battery acid, knife like pain in the pelvic area, bladder, voiding 60× plus, back and entire body.

I wish this pain on no one. I am no expert in writing but as much as these conditions have changed my life I decided to free myself from feeling afraid or ashamed about what doctors call Autoimmune Conditions that supposedly have “no cure”. After loosing my child, my career, social life, friendships and romantic partner I decided that I have reached rock bottom.

Grieving out what you use to be to what you are now is the hardest to do even 15 years later. When you live in chronic pain 24.7 it is very difficult to do anything. So, everyday is a task, a constant battle with God for acceptance and mending of financial situations. One day I woke up and said enough is enough. I decided to join support groups talk to other people in my situation. Loosing myself from the slavery of these conditions I promised myself I would start advocating to the whole world about Interstitial Cystitis. Since Interstitial Cystitis is rarely heard about.

I hope and I pray that one day all this hardwork gets noticed and we get the help we need for new research and new medications. If you will like to learn about these conditions I will attach the link below.

Yours truly,

Mari Vasquez
